Tipton County, Covington, TN is a wonderful place to live, work, play, and raise a family.  Covington is literally the heart of Tipton County.  It's been the county seat since 1824 and we’re proud of our rich heritage in helping lead Tipton County.  From the vibrant downtown court square, the expansive industrial parks, to the historic residential areas, the city has much to offer.  Covington hosts the world’s oldest BBQ cooking contest, a fall Heritage Day and a Dickens Christmas around historic court square, Music on the Square in the early summer, and many other family friendly activities. 

 

 Tipton County is made up of 8 small communities Covington, Brighton, Burlison, Gilt Edge, Mason, Atoka, Garland, and Munford.  The entire county population is approximately 29,000 residents with Covington and Atoka being the largest cities.

 

 As of the 2010 Census;

  • 61,081 people, 21,617 households, and 16,562 families residing in the county.
  • The racial makeup of the county was 77.77% White, 18.74% Black , 0.60% Asian, 0.41% Native American, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.75% from other races, and 1.64% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origins were 2.08% of the population.
